Department Manager, Project Engineering, Lonza Singapore
Bo Quan joined Lonza in early 2019, having already gained more than 11 years of professional experience, together with a degree in Chemical Engineering and an MBA, which he completed in 2016. Coming from a vaccine manufacturing background, cell therapy was more than a buzzword to him and he now works at the forefront of this ground-breaking technology – something he is very proud of.
The high-growth potential Lonza has was clear to me. Having completed work on a multi-million dollar site capacity expansion at my previous company, I saw the opportunity to apply my skills and contribute to Lonza’s growth.
started at Lonza, my career has progressed…
… rapidly. I have been given exposure to a wide variety of projects and tasks, which has definitely accelerated my learning and development. Although it is not possible to draw direct comparisons, I feel as though the pace of my development at Lonza is twice as fast as it has been in my previous jobs.
special to work at Lonza because…
During my interview with Lonza, I recall an interviewer saying to me the “there is never a dull day at Lonza”. Those words turned out to be true. Our environment is highly dynamic, and that can be appealing to people who want to achieve more in their careers.
is meaningful because…
I can help my team develop the knowledge and skills they need, and leverage their strengths to support the business. At the same time, I am also inspired by the fact that my efforts eventually lead to quality products for our customers’ patients.
makes me feel good at the end of the working day is…
As a leader, it makes me feel good whenever I see members of my team learning from the knowledge and experience I have shared with them. I also get a sense of achievement from seeing projects progress steadily under their care. The combination of Lonza’s agility and the strong work ethic in Singapore makes the Lonza Singapore team a force to be reckoned with!
exciting thing about working at Lonza is…
In addition to cell therapy operations, Singapore is also home to the operations of mammalian manufacturing and development services. There is a lot of synergy between the two and that creates myriad opportunities for both the business units and our employees.
most appreciate about my team is…
The fact that we have expertise across so many engineering disciplines, such as piping, process and architectural. I am amazed at the depth of knowledge and professionalism we have in our respective fields, and not just in my team but across the wider Singapore team. We are highly capable and together we can take on a multitude of challenges.
