Lonza Offers Lonzagard® Disinfectants for Flu Virus Infection Prevention and Control

Allendale, NJ, 29 January 2015 – The need for proper disinfection and other preventive measures is critical now as the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) reports that as of late December 2014, all national key flu indicators are elevated and about half of the country is experiencing high flu activity1.

Lonza Consumer Care’s Hygiene business offers the comprehensive Lonzagard® line of highly effective disinfectant formulations that are helping hospitals and healthcare providers, homeowners, school janitorial cleaning service personnel and others combat seasonal flu viruses causing serious illnesses.

A number of Lonza formulations have been demonstrated to inactivate certain flu viruses on hard surfaces.  Lonza offers multiple EPA-registered product families in various delivery forms from Liquid disinfectant concentrates, Ready-to-use disinfectants and Disinfecting wipes that have been tested against Influenza A strains, such as the Lonzagard® HWS Series, Lonzagard® R-82 Series, Lonzagard® Disinfectant Wipes and Lonzagard® Disinfectant Wipes Plus 2™ Series.

Right now all of CDC’s influenza surveillance systems are showing elevated activity. Influenza-like-illness (ILI) has been over baseline for the past several weeks, virological surveillance shows a lot of flu is circulating, and the hospitalization surveillance system shows increasing hospitalizations rates, especially in people 65 years and older. Also, the surveillance system that tracks mortality shows that the country is in the midst of this season’s flu epidemic2.

“During the flu season it is all the more important to use preventive measures such as disinfecting wipes, sprays and liquids on high contact hard surfaces,” said Ray Fahmy, N.A. Marketing Director Hygiene. “Multiple Lonzagard® formulations have been tested and have proven effective against major influenza strains. It’s a comfort to have protective products like these that can break the chain of transmission.” Available as disinfecting wipes, sprays and liquids, Lonzagard® formulations act quickly to eliminate flu viruses, as well as other pathogenic bacteria and viruses on multiple surfaces.

Use biocides safely. Always read the label and product information before use.
