Lonza is hiring a Senior Principal Scientist to join our Process Development Sciences team in Singapore.

This is an office-first role, enabling real-time collaboration and alignment. You will primarily work onsite, with flexibility to work remotely up to 20% of the time (1 day per week).

What you will do

  • Provide scientific leadership in the development and manufacture of therapeutic proteins using mammalian cell culture, with a strong focus on process characterization (PC) and process validation (PV) activities.

  • Lead and support late-stage process characterization studies, validation strategy development, continued process verification, and BLA-enabling activities to ensure process robustness and regulatory compliance.

  • Apply structured, data-driven approaches (e.g., RCA, DoE, multivariate analysis, risk assessments, FMEA) to design characterization studies, resolve complex technical challenges, and strengthen process understanding.

  • Contribute to process development activities, including clinical development, process transfer to cGMP manufacturing, commercial readiness, and lifecycle management.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert, ensuring scientifically sound, well-documented investigations and compliance with global regulatory expectations.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across R&D, Manufacturing, MSAT, and Quality to implement process improvements and emerging technologies.

  • Maintain high scientific rigor and quality standards while providing technical guidance to customers and internal stakeholders.

  • Identify, evaluate, and share emerging scientific and industry trends related to process characterization, validation, and biologics manufacturing.

  • Support customer interactions through technical presentations, scientific discussions, and strategic project guidance.

What we are looking for

  • PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant scientific discipline.

  • 10+ years of experience in biologics process development.

  • Extensive experience leading process characterization and process validation activities for late-stage clinical or commercial biologics programs.

  • Strong understanding of BLA-enabling studies, regulatory expectations, process validation strategies, continued process verification, and Quality by Design (QbD) principles.

  • Deep technical expertise in process characterization (PC), process validation (PV), USP, or DSP, with demonstrated success in applying DoE and risk-based methodologies.

  • Proven ability to provide technical leadership across global, cross-functional teams.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
