Senior Section Lead, Downstream Purification, Lonza Singapore

Adibah has a Pharmaceutical Sciences degree from the University of Western Australia. In her current role as a senior section lead for the small scale downstream purification process, she leads and trains a team of 11, overseeing daily operational activities and troubleshooting problems, in addition to working closely with customers.

I chose Lonza because…
I liked the fact that I’d be working with a variety of customers, from established pharmaceutical companies to vibrant biotechnology start-ups, and the opportunities that would afford me to be involved in a range of operations and processes.

Since I started at Lonza, my career has progressed…
… steadily. I joined Lonza in 2010 as a trainee. My first nine months involved training on the Purification team in Slough, UK, before returning to Singapore and starting my first role here as a Biotechnologist on the 20K downstream production team. Not long after that, I was offered the opportunity to be part of the pioneer team, running the first processes in the P7 suite. It was an amazing opportunity and I’m happy to say that I’m still part of the team today.

It’s special to work at Lonza because…
My colleagues are full of positive energy, which makes this a fun place to work. I’m part of an amazing team. The collaborative spirit here, and the strong technical foundation I’ve developed from working alongside experienced leaders, make the challenging work we do that much easier.

My work is meaningful because…
Solving problems for my team and making sure they have a safe environment to work in, one that is conducive to them doing their best work, makes my work meaningful to me.

What makes me feel good at the end of the working day is…
One of the best things is being able to deliver on our targets. My team and I support each other and combine our strengths to be able to do that. And I take great satisfaction from that.

The most exciting thing about working at Lonza is…
Our ability to evolve and the pace we do that at. Over my nine years here, I’ve helped execute many new processes using the latest technology and equipment, and I’ve also been part of a few expansion projects.

What I most appreciate about my team is…
Every one of them is a high-performer, with a mindset of excellence. I’m proud to be part of a team like that.
