We are currently seeking a Logistics Specialist for our Walkersville, MD site. This role is crucial for the smooth operation of our logistics and distribution functions, requiring proactive problem-solving and process management. The Logistics Specialist will provide comprehensive daily support across shipping, receiving, and overall logistics operations, demonstrating SAP as a key tool. We are specifically looking for candidates with experience in international trade, particularly in import/export activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Support: Provide comprehensive daily support across shipping, receiving, and overall logistics operations, applying SAP to drive efficiency and data accuracy.
Shipping & Warehouse Oversight: Ensure all logistics and warehouse areas are operated safely, accurately, and in full compliance with cGMP standards at all times.
Process Improvement: Serve as a logistics subject matter authority for technical transfers and project implementations, supplying to the continuous enhancement of operational procedures and standard processes.
Issue Resolution: Use TrackWise to document, track, and resolve operational issues while maintaining clear and thorough records.
Cost Efficiency: Lead or support initiatives focused on reducing freight costs, improving resource utilization, and enhancing overall financial performance within logistics operations.
Performance & Compliance: Handle departmental KPIs, maintain process documentation, address TrackWise grievances, and ensure accurate record-keeping.
Training & SOP Management: Ensure team training adherence to company policies. Develop, revise, and deliver SOPs related to import/export processes. Train both new and existing staff to ensure consistent and compliant execution.
Audit & Documentation Compliance: Conduct regular audits of import/export documentation (e.g., commercial invoices, packing lists) to ensure accuracy and completeness. Verify HTS codes and Incoterms to reduce customs risks and ensure proper duty calculations.
Root Cause Analysis: Perform root cause investigations, collaborate cross-functionally to address issues, implement corrective actions, and suggest process enhancements.
Audit Support: Assist with internal and external audits by managing TrackWise issue logs and providing required documentation and insights.
Key Requirements:
Demonstrated ability in supply chain, logistics, or a similar field, within either an academic or industry environment.
Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work optimally across supply chain and functional teams to support planning, distribution, and manufacturing strategies.
Proven track record to manage tasks and projects within established timelines.
Proficient in SAP ECC or SAP S/4HANA.
Effective communicator with a proactive, solution-oriented mentality.
Teammate with a positive, professional demeanor and a commitment to high performance.
Demonstrated reliability with an excellent work history, including punctuality and attendance.
Meticulous attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and quality.
Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), or equivalent software tools.
Strong understanding of import/export operations and regulatory compliance requirements.

As required by law in this state, the quoted salary range for this on-site position is $62,000.00 – $98,000.00. We use broad salary ranges that reflect the competitive market for similar jobs, provide sufficient opportunity for growth as you gain experience and expand responsibilities; while also allowing for differentiation on performance based on the breadth of our ranges, most new hires will start at the company between the lower and the middle part of the applicable range. We tailor our offers within the range based on job-related factors, including organizational needs, internal equity, market data, geographic area and the selected candidate’s experience, education, industry knowledge, location, technical and/or communication skills and other factors that may prove relevant during the selection process. This range is only inclusive of base salary, and base pay is just one component of Lonza’s total compensation package for employees.
