I started out in a downstream manufacturing role. After 18 months I decided I wanted to learn about the science behind the process, and to help make improvements where I could. So, I joined the MSAT Pilot team as a scientist.
My current role involves transferring technology from small, laboratory scale process development studies to pilot scale. It is exciting to know that my work is critical in pushing drug products into the next phase of clinical trials, so that they may eventually go to patients. Without pilot scale work, many batches would not go to the GMP manufacturing scale.
I have been able to come up with unique flowthroughs and automations that allow us to work more efficiently and collaborate more effectively. I get to see the improvements I make come to fruition. I can actively see that I make a difference.
Working at Lonza is unique to me, because although the company is large in a global sense, the Hayward site is small and grows right before your eyes. We see Lonza change year after year with expansion. Lonza’s growth, and being a part of something that is becoming a visible force for biologics, is exciting. I am excited that there will be more for me to be a part of and contribute to.
