Clara Corchero

Data Management Intern, Digital HR, Lonza, Basel (CH)

Clara joined Lonza in September 2020 as a Data Management Intern and is completing her placement year as part of her studies at the University of Exeter. She is part of the Digital HR team, where she supports data-related tasks such as the upcoming Data Catalog and glossary.

I chose Lonza because…
Lonza has an incredible reputation and opportunities for career growth. As my first full-time job, I wanted to work at a company where I could learn new things every day (as has been the case!) and be exposed to different areas of HR. For example, during the first couple of months of my internship, I was able to join several projects in different areas such as Talent and Organizational Development.

Since I started at Lonza, my career has progressed…
I have learned so much in such little time. My knowledge of the HR and corporate world has expanded immensely. There is still much to learn but I am very happy with my progress so far.

It’s special to work at Lonza because…
Everyone’s friendliness and willingness to help and collaborate is remarkable. It’s really important to me to be part of a supportive workplace.

My work is meaningful because…
I think my role at Lonza makes day-to-day life a bit easier for everyone. The focus on data management within HR is really important and we are working hard to ensure we meet the highest possible standards. My role itself is valuable to the HR community as it will facilitate and aid the understanding of the importance of data and how we can maximize its usage across the organization.

What makes me feel good at the end of the working day is…
I feel good at the end of each day knowing I have accomplished something, whether it be simple requests or more complicated tasks that I have never completed before.

The most exciting thing about working at Lonza is…
The sense of perseverance. Everyone I have come in contact with during my time at Lonza always finds a solution to whatever problem they have encountered.

What I most appreciate about my team is…
Their patience! As a global team, patience is key. Obviously with different time zones, completing tasks can be challenging, but everyone does their best. The pandemic forced us to work from home which made things a little difficult but the team has been very patient and took the time to explain and support me with my tasks.
