The new claim supports the daily knee movements of middle-aged and elderly people, such as climbing stairs, standing up, and squatting.
Sagamihara, Japan, 09 May 2022 – Lonza K.K. (Headquarter: Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture), a Japanese company of LONZA Group (Headquarter: Switzerland), which provides raw materials for pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and healthy foods globally, announced today that it has obtained new Food with Function Claims (FFC) on knee movement in undenatured type II collagen contained in UC-II® undenatured type II collagen, a knee and joint support ingredient derived from chicken cartilage, on April 28th, 2022.
UC-II® undenatured type II collagen had previously obtained FFC for “the improvement of knee extension (range of motion of the knee joint)”.1 This time, the supplement / Lonza has obtained FFC supporting knee movements (climbing stairs, squatting, and picking up items fallen on the floor) in the daily lives of middle-aged and elderly healthy individuals, thus enabling more appealing consumer messaging to be displayed on the label.
Taiko Ijichi, Business Development Manager of Capsule and Health Ingredients, Lonza K.K., commented: “The new FFC of UC-II® undenatured type II collagen allows to make function claim related to the relief of knee movements in “daily life situations” that are more attractive to consumers. We expect that continued use of UC-II® collagen products will drive developments of new products that will ultimately help active seniors with daily movement.
