Our Capsules & Health Ingredients business unit is the trusted partner and market leader in innovative capsules, dosage forms, and health ingredients for pharmaceutical and nutraceutical companies.
We are looking for a passionate and driven Director Business Development Pharma EMEA to join our highly skilled team.
In this role you will report to the Senior Leadership team of the region and have the responsibility to lead the identification and shape high-impact business opportunities within the pharmaceutical R&D and formulation space.
This role is ideal for a hunter profile, someone who thrives on uncovering whitespace opportunities, influencing early-stage decisions, and driving long-cycle innovation programs.
You will lead a highly skilled, cross-functional team and collaborate across scientific, technical, and commercial domains to position Lonza CHI as a strategic innovation partner.
This role can be based in Colmar (France), Bornem (Belgium), Spain, Italy or Germany.
What you’ll do:
Proactively identify and shape new business opportunities through early engagement with Pharma R&D, formulation, and innovation teams.
Lead opportunity qualification and early-stage program shaping with a consultative, science-driven approach.
Maintain deep knowledge of the pharmaceutical development lifecycle, formulation trends, and Lonza’s integrated solutions.
Build and maintain high-trust relationships with R&D leaders, formulators, and scientific stakeholders
Co-develop tailored solutions that align with customer innovation goals and position Lonza as a long-term partner.
Lead and inspire a team of senior scientific and commercial experts.
Drive collaboration across matrixed functions including Technical, Product Management, Marketing, Commercial Operations, and Quality.
Continuously monitor market trends, unmet needs, and innovation hotspots.
Demonstrate agility in navigating evolving market dynamics, customer priorities, and internal objectives.
Identify high-value opportunities and influences strategic direction through data-driven insights and foresight.
Build effective relationships across diverse regions, cultures, and functional areas.
What we’re looking for:
Advanced degree in Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related field; PhD or MBA preferred.
Proven experience in pharmaceutical development, CDMO services, or innovation-driven business development.
Consistent track record in opportunity origination, strategic hunting, and complex stakeholder engagement.
Strong negotiation and influencing skills with a consultative, science-first mindset.
Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional teams and managing senior-level experts.
Strong Network in the Pharma industry
Understand and adapt to the complexities of global pharmaceutical environments.
Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Proficient in English level, a second EU language preferred.
