The role:
The EHS Specialist will play a key role in managing workplace health, safety, and environmental programs to ensure compliance with UK regulations and industry standards. This role has a particular focus on driving environmental management initiatives, ensuring compliance with UK environmental legislation, and supporting sustainability goals. The successful candidate will also lead the development and execution of site-wide emergency response plans, conduct regular drills, and coordinate with internal teams and external agencies to ensure effective preparedness for incidents.
Candidates must hold a NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health (or equivalent), along with a relevant environmental qualification such as the IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide proficient, professional, and independent EHS advice to employees and managers, focusing on emergency and environmental management.
- Monitor and interpret EHS legislation, standard methodologies and Lonza requirements.
- Liaise with external regulatory bodies
- Collaborate with Site Management Teams, employees and contractors to ensure all requirements are successfully implemented and aligned with.
- Develop and manage EHS training programs that align with UK regulatory requirements and Lonza’s standards.
- Maintain accurate EHS data and records to ensure ongoing compliance and support continuous improvement efforts.
- Please note that this role may involve out-of-hours on-call duties.
Key requirements:
- Qualified to NEBOSH Occupational Safety and Health Certificate level or equivalent.
- Ideally holds an appropriate environmental qualification such as IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management.
- Demonstrable background of working as an EHS professional in a highly regulated environment
- Ability to communicate across all levels of an organization; strong influencing skills; highly organized and methodical; good program management.
- Proficiency in EHS Systems and MS Office skills is required. Good leadership, communication, and presentation skills are required.
