Senior Business Development Specialist

As a member of the Advanced Synthesis Sales team, reporting to the Head of Business Development US West, the primary responsibility of a Senior BD Specialist is to bolster our early-stage prospecting in new accounts, support deeper prospect and lead qualification and conversion, increase awareness of the Lonza ADS offering in the biotech hubs, conference and event preparation, with the potential to develop further responsibilities. This position will work closely with Business Developers in the Western North American Sales team with a focus on the Biotech hubs of San Francisco/Bay Area and San Diego.
The Business Development Specialist is responsible for prospecting and converting prospects to leads for follow-up by Business Development colleagues. They will work very closely with the marketing intelligence team and Business Developers to build a strong understanding of the biotech ecosystems in the hubs. They will work very closely with technical sales and commercial development to understand and articulate our technologies and value propositions. The Specialist will target new companies and consultants through email and phone prospection to establish connections with new target accounts and increase awareness of Lonza and our Advanced Synthesis capabilities in the biotech hubs, with the ultimate goal of generating a funnel of new leads and opportunities.
The Business Development Specialist will also be responsible for supporting conference preparation, including reviewing and prioritizing target lists with their BD colleagues, supporting partnering meeting outreach, attending conferences, and organizing networking events.
This position will be home-based but is best served from one of the main Biotech hubs.
Key responsibilities:
In-depth desk research on potential target customers (with the support of Market Intelligence)
Prospecting and initial outreach to target customers and consultants
Following up on marketing/website-generated prospects
Converting prospects to concrete leads for follow-up by Business Development Managers
Liaising with internal functions such as Technical Sales and Commercial Development to ensure full alignment on technologies and value propositions
Supporting conference preparation and booth duty
Organization of networking events regionally and nationally. Maintain solid understanding of market trends, competitive landscape, and emerging opportunities; ability to align sales strategies with the long-term goals of Lonza and its clients.
Key Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably Chemistry, Biochemistry, Engineering; Master’s and/or MBA preferred.
~1-3 years of experience in Project Management, Technical Sales/Sales, Research & Development
This is a home-based role. Occasional travel to site for training and conferences is required. A valid driver's license and passport are required for travel.

As required by law in this state, the quoted salary range for this position is $100,000 – $160,000. We use broad salary ranges that reflect the competitive market for similar jobs, provide sufficient opportunity for growth as you gain experience and expand responsibilities, while also allowing for differentiation on performance Based on the breadth of our ranges, most new hires will start at the company between the lower and the middle part of the applicable range. We tailor our offers within the range based on job-related factors, including organizational needs, internal equity, market data, geographic area and the selected candidate’s experience, education, industry knowledge, location, technical and/or communication skills and other factors that may prove relevant during the selection process. This range is only inclusive of base salary, and base pay is just one component of Lonza’s total compensation package for employees.
