Director, Process Modeling Expert (m/f/d)
Today, Lonza is a global leader in life sciences operating across three continents. While we work in science, there’s no magic formula to how we do it. Our greatest scientific solution is talented people working together, devising ideas that help businesses to help people. In exchange, we let our people own their careers. Their ideas, big and small, genuinely improve the world. And that’s the kind of work we want to be part of.
The Director, Process Modeling Expert provides hands-on process, modeling and simulation expertise during the early project phases and leads the process modeling discipline in the Front End team for SGIE Growth projects. She/He can turn initial, high-level process and facility data into comprehensible process models using state of the art modeling/simulation software (e.g. SuperPro Designer, Aspen Plus, etc.).
As part of the lean and agile Front End team, the Expert can achieve rapid turnaround of business requests and quickly turning these into high level and easy to understand options and visuals.
The technical areas of responsibility include biologics-, cell & gene therapies-, mRNA-, small molecules-, bioconjugates- and drug product/aseptic manufacturing as well as labs.
Key responsibilities:
Generating generic process model templates for the different divisions (mammalian mAB, bioconjugates, mRNA, small molecules etc.).
Own and deliver the process modeling/simulation area during project initiation phases (ideation, feasibility, concept design).
Create detailed process models by defining the various components, unit operations and equipment involved in the process as well as the sizing of the equipments.
Provide comprehensible decision basis during design development regarding production capacity of processes/facilities under consideration of batch times, campaign durations, change over times and different production models (e.g. commercial vs clinical) operability and profitability by assessing, estimating and addressing different production models.
Act as servant leader, integrator and collaborator - willing to lend a hand/support everyone in her/his sphere of influence.
Work within a technical engineering context and integrate process engineering, operations, site engineering, tech transfer and maintenance aspects into the process modelling.
Perform economic analysis by estimating capital and operating costs, allowing stakeholders to evaluate the profitability of different process alternatives.
Support environmental impact assessments of processes, including factors like energy consumption, waste generation and emissions.
