Lonza in Boston, MA is growing, and we are seeking an experienced Lab & Facilities Manager. responsible for service delivery of the site facilities, labs & operations at Lonzas Boston/Cambridge site ensuring the site runs efficiently, effectively & safely. The role will require working remotely from the line manager & will have the ability to make decisions in respect to this role and will be on call to provide advice & support if required in the event of site/facility related emergency.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsible for the day-to-day management of lab services contracts & monitoring & measuring the delivery of these contracts.

Such contracts are expected to include, but not limited to: Laboratory equipment service & maintenance, Cleaning, Laboratory waste management, laboratory gas supplies.

Responsible for managing the delivery by contractors of statutory & mandatory requirements for maintenance & a planned maintenance programme, in accordance with landlords requirements.

Responsible for ensuring any/all safety and biological safety permits are in place and up to date, including with the necessary authorities (working alongside Lonza EHS & approved contractors)

Responsible for managing the correct & proper handling, collection, storage & disposal of all types of laboratory waste.

Responsible for monitoring & managing laboratory gas cylinders & liquid nitrogen supply.

Responsible for raising purchasing requisitions for laboratory supplies & liaising with Lonza’s procurement team as necessary.

Receipting for goods in & site deliveries

Responsible for Goods in area stock control duties including inventory management.

Responsible for lab glass wash collections & operation

Responsible to operation of lab autoclave

Responsible for exercising delegated budgetary authority for reactive repairs.

Responsible for issuing permit to work & monitoring progress.

Responsible for overseeing any facility-based inspections (if required) for compliance with local rules & regulations.

Liase with landlord as/when needed.

Build relationship with Lonza facilities colleagues based in Portsmouth, NH

General tidiness of the site operations/housekeeping to be maintained.

Key Requirements:

Bachelors preferred/will consider experience in lieu of degree.

Experience in lab/facilities operations

5+years of experience in lab facilities/services

Experience working in an EHS - BIO Safety background and Contract Management

A team player able to support scientists on site in performing their activities.

Able to work independently and diligently to an established plan, priorities and work to tight deadlines. Contribute to and maintain Operational Excellence initiatives.

Performing lab and area inspections to maintain high levels of quality and safety.

Ensure all site/facility activities are performed in accordance with Lonza and State requirements.

Excellent interpersonal skills, with good communication and attention to detail essential. A demonstrable approach to problem-solving attitude is also an advantage.
