The Senior Project Manager will be accountable for planning and delivering CAPEX & OPEX engineering project solutions and services to support Lonza operations in an effective, compliant, safe and innovative way. This role needs to closely align/collaborate with assigned site project and operation teams, providing the expertise and management of CAPEX Project roadmap principles, and engineering approach. The Sr. Project Manager will act as a technical resource to ensure that equipment and facilities are designed, installed, and qualified per Lonza and industry requirements.

Key responsibilities:

  • Accountable to deliver all phases of the project, from ideation into financial

  • closeout. This includes but not limited to Design, Procurement, Construction, Commissioning and Qualification, and project closure.

  • Accountable to manage a project team of professional individuals, with close communication, and ensuring key deliverables are met

  • Closely align/collaborate with assigned site project and operation teams, providing the expertise and management of CAPEX Project roadmap principles, and engineering approach.

  • Responsible of project reporting for budget spending and schedule, with the support of project team.

  • Manage engineering contractors on the planning and execution of plant projects involving complex equipment changes and significant process improvements including lump sum and CAR capital projects.

  • Oversees the process/timelines of authoring and routing of CARs for internal and Lonza management review.

  • Primary contact for escalation in the progression of ESR / CARs through the endorsement and approval process.

  • Effectively communicate progress and opportunities (i.e. roadblocks) to stakeholders.

  • Accountable for all associated project KPIs, safety, quality, and environmental compliance.

  • Participates in audits and inspections as engineering SME

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Engineering Discipline, or Master’s in Engineering/Construction

  • Mastery of all the necessary engineering and project management disciplines required to support the CGT BU engineering projects / portfolio

  • A solid understanding of design principles and standards within Biopharmaceutical facilities. Ability to look at plant problems and come up with options for solutions.

  • Ability to understand and challenge design and execution concepts from outside vendors/engineers. 

  • Ability to handle multiple projects (5-10) simultaneously, keeping track of costs and schedule and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.

  • Use organizational skills to prioritize and resolve project issues.

  •  Ability to evaluate solutions and recommend action based on meeting scope, schedule, and budget.

  • Creative thinker and change contributor

  • Basic knowledge on commercial as well as lead technological innovation
