We are currently looking to recruit a Senior Scientist within the Purification Development Team in Slough. This is a customer facing, lab-based role, developing purification processes for scale-up transfer to global Lonza manufacturing sites. You will also have interaction with key internal and external stakeholders, as well exposure to our global network of innovative and customer focused teams.
Key responsibilities:
- Act as a Purification Development representative on the customer program providing regular client updates and presentations
- Developing full downstream processes for scale-up to manufacturing
- Designing and executing experimental work
- Performing protein purification experimental work: including resin chromatography on a range of chemistries, in-process filtration and ultrafiltration / diafiltration
- Column packing to set specifications
- Prepare and deliver presentations, protocols and reportsto a high standard
- Ownership/Troubleshooting of lab equipment/departmental processes
- Training a range of lab tasks to other members of the team
- Opportunities to coach and mentor junior team members
- Collate, analyse and evaluate data to produce good quality process information
- It is expected that the Scientist will be able to recognize anomalies in the execution of the lab activities and data and report them to the lead scientist
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to the efficient running of the laboratory
- Lead departmental improvements via lean six sigma and kaizen events
- Ensure a safe working environment and operate in a safe manner at all times. Observe regulatory and safety compliance in the laboratory
Key requirements:
- Bachelors degree in a relevant scientific subject.
- Previous experience in protein purification including chromatography and use of AKTA systems
- Knowledge of GMP / GLP is desirable
- Theoretical knowledge or protein chemistry and protein purification
- Strong planning and organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal English is essential
- Experience in mentoring or coaching team members
- Planning or project management skills (Gantt, Action Log)
