Group Leader (Bioassay Method Development)

We are currently looking for a Group Leader – Bioassay Method Development, to join Lonza and lead our Bioassay Method Development team. This team is responsible for developing and optimising bioassays for batch release for use in GMP validation. This will be a hands on position whether you will not only be a technical expert in this area, but responsible for line management of this team to a team of scientists.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accountability for completion of work within team to target KPI's

  • Excellent leadership and coaching of Tactical Review Meetings

  • Working with department head to prioritise and manage workload of the team

  • Cascading department plans working with the individual to identify and set annual performance goals and development plans, using the SMART framework

  • Addressing any gaps in staff performance promptly, by carrying out informal supportive meetings and if required creating personal improvement plans

  • Driving a culture continuous improvement by leading projects and coaching/mentoring staff in the use of operational excellence tools

Key requirements:

  • Msc/PhD in life science or related field, or equivalent working experience

  • Experience in leading a team within a biologics environment essential

  • Bioassay Method development experience with knowledge and ability in a range of bioanalytical techniques including ELISA, cell based assays (multiple format), SPR, flow cytometry, cell transfection
    GMP Awareness desirable

  • A continuous improvement mindset - actively challenging processes and looking for ways to improve

  • Ability to take a strategic approach, looking at processes at a wider level

  • Strong communication skills, ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of internal/external stakeholders
