Lonza is looking for a Head of Bioconjugate Growth Projects. This role will serve as the lead to growth projects and business case development for new growth projects. Once a project is approved the person will be the Project Champion (PC)  responsible for achieving the business goals of the Growth Projects. The PC acts as the “General Manager” of the Growth Project, provides strategic leadership and leads the governance across key functions, and ensures the project goals are aligned with market needs, Lonza/Bioconjugation strategy, and profitability targets. Additionally this role will collaborate with the head of strategy for new investments and work with project teams to align on innovation investments that are of high value to the business unit strategy.  

Key responsibilities:

  • Champions the expansion programs in Visp and leads governance across key functions, Operations, Engineering, Finance, Commercial, Sales, HR, Supply Chain, Procurement.

  • Mandate to oversee and guide delivery of the outcome of the project on behalf of a Steering Committee.

  • Responsible for achieving the business goals of the growth project including long term revenue.

  • Establishes the project business requirements and works with Ops and Strategy to define the business requirements and validate business feasibility and technical approach together with the Project Director.

  • Manages scope changes and impacts in alignment with Project Director.

  • Provides the CAR together with key functions and to present it to the approval bodies.

  • Ensures the clarity of the contracts with customers to avoid misunderstandings.

Key requirements:

  • Degree in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Engineering, or Pharmacology, additionally an MBA is preferred

  • Extensive background in Operations, Finance and Commercial in the biotech or pharma sector and expert knowledge of biological manufacturing

  • First CMO experience, in particular within drug substance (DS)

  • Able to operate effectively in a matrix organization

  • Executive level presence, ability to present at Executive Committee and board level

  • Experience leading large CAPEX projects

  • Fluency in English is required, German preferred
