Principal Scientist - R&D Omics and Bioinformatics

We are looking to recruit a Principal Scientist, to join our Omics and Informatics group within the Protein and Process Analytics R&D team.

The Omics and Informatics group is seeking a highly motivated individual with a proved record in innovative workflow development, multiomics study design and biological data interpretation.

This role requires specialisation in experimental Omics technologies, mass spectrometry and advanced data analysis tools for Proteomics, Metabolomics and/or Genomics/Transcriptomics. It is a high-level scientific position that will support leading edge innovative studies within Lonza Biologics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing oversight and executing scientific activities with elements of study design and implementation, laboratory work, scientific review, coaching of junior scientists, project management, professional mentoring, technology scouting.

  • Generating multi-omics datasets using various mass spectrometry-based approaches and dissecting the complexity of the available data to provide biological interpretation advancing knowledge and leading improvements in biomanufacturing process

  • Developing and leading innovative proteomics, metabolomics and multi-omics approaches to drive breakthrough applications.

  • Providing scientific leadership and direction within the team and leading strong collaboration efforts across the Bio R&D department to maximize synergies and impact.

  • Engaging in external collaborations and disseminating results through publication and participation to high profile conferences and workshops.

Key requirements:

  • PhD Degree in Life Sciences / Science or equivalent; Preferred area of study:  Biochemistry Bioinformatics/Biomanufacturing

  • Industry and/or academic experience in an analytical laboratory, with a focus on Mass Spectrometry, Proteomics and Metabolomics

  • Documented history of high-quality publications / patent filings in the field of Omics studies

  • Detailed knowledge and practical application of mass spectrometry and bioinformatics applied to Proteomics, Metabolomics and other (multi)omics studies.

  • Thorough understanding of the state of the art of the technologies and its applications in the area of Proteomics, Metabolomics and other Omics approaches.

  • A good general background in established analytical methods within the industry, including the strengths and weaknesses of various approaches.

  • An understanding of manufacturing processes for biopharmaceuticals

  • A good technology and practical competence in a range of analytical methods, in particular in advanced mass spectrometry application.

  • Interpersonal skills to deliver technical projects within a matrix organisation.

  • Intellect for scoping and design of complex projects.

  • High level of empathy and desire to see others succeed.

  • Proven ability to deliver innovative solutions to scientific challenges.

  • Resilient to setbacks and able to motivate self and others under challenging conditions
