We are currently looking for a Director, High Throughput (HT) Technologies to join our R&D biologics team. Our Bio R&D team is selecting and implementing an arrange of state of the art High Throughput Technologies (for molecular engineering, screening, analytics and bioprocess) to facilitate strategic innovation projects for our Mammalian, Microbial, Bioconjugates and mRNA business areas, and as a Director within High Throughput Technologies, you will be working closely with other key stakeholders and leading Lonza’s innovation strategy and execution in this area which will result in significant commercial and scientific impact in the field.

Acting as the High Throughput Automation/Technologies expert within Lonza, you will be providing scientific and technical leadership to elevate Lonza’s profile externally and will act as principal investator/coordinator of Bio R&D activies related to HT Technologies.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced leader to join Lonza, and work globally to support our Biologics R&D business with real opportunity to innovate within this area.

Key responsibilities:

  • Designing and successful delivery of cross R&D projects or programs (incl. collaborations) involving HT technologies.

  • Leading the innovation strategy and develop execution plan for HT technologies. Providing scientific and technical leadership to the BU.

  • Proactively identifying innovation opportunities and proprietary solutions that expand or significantly improve and differentiate Lonza's offerings.

  • Leveraging a strong and reliable network of external experts that can multiply/enhance Lonza's R&D efforts for HT technologies.

  • Working closely with CoE Directors to identify and implement HT technology needs and appropriate solutions

  • Working closely with IP counsels to understand freedom to operate and developing challenges / opportunities in field of expertise.

  • Preparing high quality technical analyses and reports.

  • Presenting projects to internal stakeholders and through external channels.

  • Proactively driving project decision making through timely and appropriate communication across levels.

Key requirements:

  • PhD/MSc in life sciences related field, or equivalent working experience

  • Demonstrable, hands on experience and  SME knowledge with High Throughput Technologies within biotechnology, with the ability to organise and facilitate the development of complex scientific concepts and their application to solving practical problems/issues

  • Strong experience, and understanding of working within biologics

  • An awareness of bioinformatics and understanding of the relationship between this and HT Technologies

  • Strong influencing skills, ability to work as SME and provide scientific leadership in this area and communicate effectively with senior stakeholders within Lonza.

  • The ability to integrate scientific ideas from multiple sources into novel ideas and concepts

  • The ability to establish a culture of innovation and lead the innovation process from brainstorming to ideation.

  • Ability to generate a pipeline of ideas for the organisation
