EHS/Training Specialist

Lonza Kingston is hiring a EHS/training specialist.

Key responsibilities:

  • Inspecting and evaluating the work environment, processes, to ensure compliance with OSHA (local EHS) regulations and standards.
  • Advocate and lead the safety and sustainability program
  • Identify and implement health and safety policies, procedures/practices and programs to prevent injury and enhance site safety culture
  • Recommending changes to protect and educate workers on how to prevent health problems through the use of safety training programs.
  • Conduct investigation into Accident and Injury reports to identify root causes and find ways to prevent them in the future.
  • Lead JH&S committee meetings and document
  • Liaison with Global EHS contacts in the US and Basel
  • Followup on all Safety Audit items
  • Maintain safety documents, data tracking and complete analytics
  • WSIB administration and assist in return to work program
  • Conducting project inspections, determining unsafe conditions, conducts Monthly safety meeting
  • Building a working relationship with Contractors and ensure compliance to all safety policies
  • Maintaining day-to-day oversight of safety programs and compliance.
  • Ensuring local standards and regulations are observed.
  • Reviewing new standards, rules, and regulations to determine relevancy to the company's operations.
  • Documenting and Communicating all incidents, proactive prevention measures, training logs, KPIs, and reporting using Lonza tracking system.
  • Your main goal is to protect the employees, customers, and the environment.

  • Post-secondary education with experience in Organizational development
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • OSHA, IOSH and NEBOSH qualifications or equivalent, or five (5) years of equivalent training and experience that provides a comprehensive understanding of occupational safety and health principles and practices may be substituted for a degree.
  • Solid understanding of EHS, Worker's Compensation regulations.
  • Ability to detect and solve problems effectively while coaching others
  • Ability to provide leadership and education at all levels.
  • Strong influencer and communicator.
  • Demonstrated successful experience in working in a demanding, high performance work environment and team oriented culture.
  • Able to think and act strategically, but also be willing to “roll up sleeves” for all safety and training functions.
  • Training and knowledge of Lean methodologies is an asset
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to interpret, applicable codes, standards, guidelines and government legislation specifically the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations, Environmental Protection Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, etc.
  • Able to work in biology labs, manufacturing clean room operations, office and warehousing environments
  • Able to work under pressure with time constraints
  • Strong PC skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
