The Head of Site Services DPS Basel supports the BU Head Drug Product Services (DPS) to enable the different DPS departments in Basel to concentrate on customer projects.

Drive site-specific investment projects. Lead creation and adaptions of processes according to the speed of growth of the site. Support the continuous change, timely implementation, necessary growth speed and effective resource allocation.

Key responsibilities:

Strategic and tactical initiatives and site governance

  • Strategic projects (CAPEX or business processes)

  • Drive culture, attitude, behavior and engagement consistent with the principles of PM

  • Promote PM core processes, systems and excellence in execution

  • Manage project scope, timelines and budget and program profitability with core project team

  • Project types: investment (pilot manufacturing line, lab building), process improvements (lean lab, SAP implementation) or GMP projects (PAI preparation)

  • Investment volume up to 60 mCHF e.g. building H (building costs (leased later on) plus special user requirements)

  • Ensure the right and effective internal and external governance are in place and are effective. Also ensures very clear alignment of internal stakeholders

Operational Excellence and Support

  • Organize & deliver DPS department specific focused training

  • Establish visualizations tools according to department requirements able to extract and/or exchange data form global LONZA network systems and dashboards (e.g. available in power BI)

  • Leverage and promote group-wide KPI standard tools, e.g. Flying Carpet including tracking and continuous improvement

  • Drive standardization, centralization and digitalization projects

  • Implement cross departmental solutions within DPS on basis of MS-Office Programs mainly Access, Project, Excel and reinforce the data quality

  • Introduction of new processes support by software usage (Microsoft, SAP, or other Lonza global network processes)

  • Develop and maintain documentation relating to all assigned systems and user cases

  • Provide external support/expertise for cross-departmental projects and/or site emergency care (together with EHS)

  • Owner of business continuity plan for DPS

  • During execution, key focus is on quality, cost, profitability, timelines and risk management.

Environmental Health & Safety (EHS)

  • Ensure all Environmental Health & Safety (EHS)-related aspects for Drug Product Services (DPS) as followed

  • Responsible EHS, DPS Basel within Lonza (Global EHS, Lonza Emergency Communication (LECOM), Management of Change, internal safety audits, safety coaches, occupational safety, contact to EHS Visp and other Lonza locations, insurances and SUVA regulations, health checks of employees)

  • Responsible for emergency planning (emergency concepts, fire department, health, contact for emergency forces and services, clarification team, reporting accidents and incidents)

  • Coordinating and execution of weekly safety inspections, EHS internal audits, CAPA management

  • Containment strategy and control of dealing with high potent or hazardous substances

  • Risk assessments

  • Biosafety - working with microorganisms and biological materials (serum, viruses, cell cultures, DNA, RNA etc.), BSL 1 and BSL 2

  • Concept for building and plant safety

  • Safety and EHS related trainings of floor and lab responsible persons

Key requirements:

  • Very good knowledge across several pharmaceutical functions e.g. development, commercial in several fields regarding analytics, development, manufacturing and supporting topics

  • Very good experience in operational excellence and business process optimization

  • Very strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to motivate and manage not teams in a traditional hierarchical organizational structure and also enable teams in a matrix structure.

  • Ability to create a highly collaborative and inclusive environment necessary for a team to be effective.

  • Excellent communication skills with a proven ability to influence internal and external stakeholders

  • Has a strong sense of operating in a proactive manner driving themselves and their team towards key millstones and project initiatives.

  • Has the strength of character to have difficult conversations with internal team members, and/or management when required.

  • Strategic mind-set with quality decision making, while balancing risk.
