Associate Principal Scientist - Protein Chemistry R&D - 12 month fixed term contract

We are currently looking to recruit an Associate Principal Scientist – R&D within our Protein Chemistry team on a 12 month fixed term contract.

As an Associate Principal Scientist, you will be working within our Protein and Process Analytic R&D team, and will be responsible for delivering high value technical innovation to Lonza, both via specialist analytical projects and as part of wider collaborative project teams.

As a senior member of the team, you will be responsible for oversight and execution of the scientific activities of the team which includes elements of laboratory work, scientific review, and coaching, project management, professional mentoring, technology scouting and driving implementation fo new technologies within the Lonza network.

This role would suit someone who has extensive experience in analytical protein separation, and characterisation of biothearaputics using liquid chromatography, capillary electrophoresis, and mass spectrometry.

Key responsibilities:

  • Working within the lab environment to undertake various analytical projects within the protein chemistry team

  • Undertaking a wide range of analytical techniques such as liquid chromatography, capillary electrophoresis, and mass spectrometry.

  • Oversight and execution of research and innovation projects within protein chemistry/R&D

  • Coaching and mentoring of more junior members of the team

  • Providing scientific leadership and direction within the team and through external collaboration

  • Technology scouting/assessment and engagement with the scientific community

Key requirements:

  • Phd Degree in Biological Sciences/(Bio)Chemical Engineering/Biological Engineering/Chemistry or have equivalent relevant experience

  • Practical hands on industry and/or academic experience in an analytical laboratory

  • Extensive experience in analytical protein separation, and characterisation of biothearaputics using liquid chromatography, capillary electrophoresis, and mass spectrometry and other techniques. (IEX, SEC, HIC, HILIC, LC-MS and LC-MS/MS)

  • Documented history of high quality publications in the field of protein analysis desirable

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to deliver technical projects within a matrix organisation
