Scientist (m/f/d) Microbial DSP Pharma & Biotech

We are searching for a Scientist DSP (m/f/d) for our newly established DSP Development team within Microbial R&D in Visp (Switzerland).  As part of Lonza`s Pharma &  Biotechnology division, the Microbial R&D drives innovation by establishing new state-of-the-art technologies and processes which will ultimately be transferred to large-scale production. As a Scientist DSP you will evaluate new DSP technologies and  develop innovative purification strategies for proteins produced in microbial expression systems (mainly bacteria and yeast). You are enthusiastic about innovation and new technologies and enjoy transferring science into processes.  You will collaborate with in an interdisciplinary R&D team and will also interact with scientific experts from manufacturing. Therefore, we are looking for a  motivated and open minded scientist who is able to work in a highly interactive and dynamic environment.

Key responsibilities:

  • Design and plan experiments

  • Execute and analyze experiments

  • Develop and optimize purification protocols

  • Develop new purification strategies for soluble and insoluble proteins

  • Perform chromatography runs, filtrations, and downstream analytics

  • Documentation of results, reporting, taking part in scientific discussions and preparing presentations

Key requirements:

  • M.S. or B.S. degree in biotechnology, biochemistry, biology or related field

  • Profound knowledge in protein chemistry, purification techniques, chromatography, filtration and corresponding analytical methods

  • Good knowledge in bioinformatics and statistical methods, experience in statistical model building would be an advantage

  • Experience in high-throughput screening, automation and/or primary recovery is a plus 

  • You are reliable and show scientific rigor on an everyday basis

  • You are a flexible and proactive team player

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. German or the willingness to learn German is a plus
