Lonza’s Drug Product Services team is highly skilled in the development of biopharmaceuticals including standard monoclonal antibodies, recombinant proteins, fusion proteins, antibody drug conjugates and vaccines, as well as viral- and cell-based therapies. The bioanalytics group will support development, validation and application of bioanalytical methods for release and stability testing of biologics under GMP.  By applying various methods for measuring potency (ELISA/LBA, cell-based assays, Biacore, qPCR, etc.) we are an integral part of the analytical department to support our customer’s needs. In this position you will shape the strategy of bioanalytical projects and methods, and contribute to the future setup of the rapidly growing bioanalytical group, which is supporting projects for all disease areas and modalities, i.e. biologics, vaccines as well as cell and gene therapy.

Key responsibilities:

  • Build, lead and manage a team of Group Leads and assigned Scientists within DPS Bioanalytics

  • Ensure effective use of resources of Group Leads and their Teams (time, personnel, equipment, material), maintenance of equipment, and follow lab instructions and all cGMP regulations

  • Liaise with partner units within the Lonza network to ensure the successful delivery of projects and Govern bioanalytical strategy for projects and life cycle management of bioanalytical methods

  • Review & Approval of reports throughout the life cycle of a project

  • Support Group Leads and their Teams by oversight of the design, establishment, optimization, and trouble-shooting of bioanalytical tests to support release, stability and formulation development, possibly under cGMP, following applicable SOP’s and all current documentation practices

  • Overall responsibility together with the Group Leads for the development and establishment of analytical methods and technologies as required (including ELISA, SPR, qPCR and cell-based, flow cytometry based potency assays and others). Oversee and engage in innovation and technical strategy projects

  • Establish DPS bioanalytical infrastructure and services for parenteral clinical and commercial products

  • Ensure safety and health protection – also for assigned Group Leads and Teams – by following lab and safety instructions and all cGMP regulations

Key requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Biotechnology or related Life Science subject

  • Working experience within the Bio-Pharmaceutical industry

  • Expertise and knowledge in several analytical methodologies, including lab automation, ligand binding assays (ELISA, HTRF, ECL), surface plasmon resonance, mammalian cell culture, preparation of primary cells, qPCR, flow cytometry, etc.

  • Passion for accurate documentation

  • Familiarity of working with electronic documentation systems (laboratory notebook, document management, LIMS)

  • Excellent communication skills.
