Senior Manager, Upstream Process Bio R&D

Within the company Lonza Bio R&D leads the discovery, design and development of innovative biologics platforms, processes and technologies that form the basis of our products.
We are currently looking to recruit a Senior Manager, Upstream Process Bio R&D to join our team. As a Senior Manager, you will be responsible for the management of three separate teams within our upstream area, whilst also driving to support the development of the execution of Lonza’s innovation strategy, whist leveraging strong networks of expertise. You will also act as a subject matter expert (SME), and provide cross-discipline scientific leadership to R&D teams, to expand Lonza’s presence and research profile externally.
In this role, and using your knowledge of the industry, you will have the opportunity to play an active role in defining Lonza’s future strategy within R&D, leading the way through innovative projects.
Proactively contributes to the strategy development of the CoE, and translates it in executable plans for the team
Managing resource within the upstream function, which includes mentoring, coaching and ensure teams are achieving deliverables
Designing and successful delivery of cross functional innovation projects or programs (incl. collaborations)
Proactively identifies innovation opportunities and proprietary solutions that expand or significantly improve and differentiate Lonza's offerings
Leveraging a strong and reliable network of external experts that can multiply/enhance Lonza's R&D efforts in area of expertise
Maintaining accurate and timely records to appropriate quality standard for self and team, prepares high quality technical analyses, plans and reports for internal or external use
Presenting projects to internal stakeholders and at external conferences, and ensures the team publishes in peer-reviewed journals
Proactively drives project decision making through timely delivery and appropriate communication across levels.
PhD Cell Biology, Biotechnology, Life Sciences or comparable scientific discipline or equivalent industry experience
Strong understanding of a biologics manufacturing process
Demonstrable experience working within cell culture, cell biology R&D, preferably with different product types within a biopharma industry
An understanding of trends/opportunities within the industry, and ability to identify possible innovation opportunities
Proven experience working within a leadership/management type role with responsibility for strategic direction/change, with strong people management skills
Experienced people manager, able to coach and develop team to maximize efficiency, and deliver goals
Proven track record f operating in a matrix environment
Experience working within a GRP, and understanding of cGMP Quality Management Systems
Excellent communication skills, ability to work and influence internal and external stakeholders
