The Operations, M&E Manager will direct and coordinate all engineering activities within the company's flagship pharmaceutical manufacturing facility, including equipment maintenance, project management, process validations & drive operational excellence culture to ensure overall plant goals and organization objectives are accomplished. This position is also responsible for the planning of maintenance & engineering project activities to support the company’s objectives and programs.  The Maintenance & Engineering Manager will oversee a team of more than 20-30.

Key responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the successful implementation of state of art technical or engineering projects in the creation and development of automatic, semi-automatic and manually controlled production machines, auxiliary equipment, or other items presenting new or constantly changing problems of materials, customer requirements and product uses.

  • Prepare M & E budget, resource requirement etc. based on the business plan and strategic plan for the site, responsible for plant overall KPI’s such as A%T, GUR, Yield, ensuring safety compliances to regulations.

  • Assist the plant head by providing inputs, suggestions, improvement areas, new projects that can be taken by M & E to improve plant performance.

  • Prepare Capital Expenditure plan and write CPAs.

  • Ensure project execution is progressing as per plan, and take corrective steps as needed.

  • Prepare KPI’s for department, communicate targets to team and monitor progress against KPIs.

  • Review machine performance regularly and identify potential issues and take suitable action.

  • Review of annual preventive maintenance schedule and monitor progress based on MTTR & MTBF.

  • Drive continuous improvement as per Operational Excellence methodology.

  • Develop and manage the site's Capital Projects plan and budget.

  • Direct and prioritize the activities of direct staff while managing overall responsibility for activities of project engineers and technical support personnel. Manage engineering team direct reports and their subordinates. Responsible for Manpower deployment and re-structure and capability building of team to remain up to date with latest technology

  • Coordinate process improvement efforts with plant leadership.

  • Prioritize engineering projects and assignments for completion by the appropriate engineering personnel.

  • Establish engineering networks with other facilities, OEM, R&D, Marketing, and Corporate Engineering functions for new product implementation.

  • Establish systems to document and maintain process validation and drawing compliance.

  • Oversee acquisition, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposition of building systems, production equipment, furniture and equipment.

  • Manage the finances of the engineering function, analyzes financial information, prepares and manages operating and capital budgets, and monitors revenues and expenditures to contain costs.

  • Work with all departments within the facility to assure that inventory, budget, and Plant financial goals and objectives are accomplished ensuring safety first.

  • Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP and ISO), safety policies, and good housekeeping and that safety and hazard practices are understood and followed.

  • Work to assure Quality Assurance requirements and regulatory compliance are maintained.

  • To liaise closely with  Global M & E team to find common issues, feedback as also to ensure that the  Global database and network of knowledge can be shared and be benefitted from.

  • To monitor Energy, Power and Fuel Costs and take corrective actions with Utility In charge

  • Responsible for Plant, Building and Facility upgrade from time to time.

  • To help develop Alternate vendors for Engineering activities at site.

  • To keep COG within budgeted limits with special focus on R&M costs and Energy costs.

  • To take disciplinary actions in accordance with Capsugel Policy and Guidelines.

Key requirements:

  • Masters/ Bachelor Degree with at least 10 years of relevant experience in Mechanical / Plant Operations

  • Possess at least 2 years of relevant experience in Pharmaceutical & Bioscience industries

  • Demonstrates timely and accurate decision making, ensuring delegation or escalation where appropriate

  • Lead and assist team to overcome performance obstacles and challenges
