For Drug Product Services (DPS), our successful Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) branch, located in Basel, Switzerland and Stein, Switzerland, we have exciting opportunities. Become part of a group that enables its customers to meet some of the greatest challenges in patient treatment and join us by applying for the position as Group Lead Trace Analysis / Structure Elucidation in the Forensic Chemistry team.

Key responsibilities:

  • Perform and supervise analytical studies and root cause investigations to support DPS projects, as well as perform services for external customers.

  • Build up a group, and then lead and manage lab scientists and interns. Ensure effective use of resources (time, people, equipment and materials). Provide appropriate coaching and performance feedback to direct reports. Ensure effective use of resources, review and approve data, and compile reports and SOPs.

  • Develop and establish analytical technologies for various analytics in the field of trace analysis and structure elucidation and establish trace analytical assays. Apply e.g. LC-UV-MS, GC-MS, other chromatographic methods, or plate reader based – also enzymatic-assays.

  • Enable innovation and technical strategy projects, generate intellectual property, as well as evaluate and implement new technologies as required.

  • Closely interact with the other functions across Forensic Chemistry, DPS and the wider Lonza network.

  • Supervise installation, qualification and maintenance of instruments in DPS Forensic Chemistry according to current best practices and regulations.

Key requirements:

  • PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related field

  • Substantial work experience and background in hyphenated analytical methodologies

  • Strong working knowledge in all relevant analytical techniques

  • Experience in reporting, interpretation and documentation of complex analytical data

  • Good communication and inter-personal skills

  • Ability to work independently in a team

  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English

  • Post-doctoral experience in an academic or preferably in a pharmaceutical environment is an asset
