LSI is looking for a Trademark Counsel supporting our Intellectual Property Team. The role is located at our global headquarter in Basel, Switzerland.

In a global capacity, you independently provide for and implement the trademark strategy for all LSI businesses, as well as contribute to the brand architecture, brand strategy and brand creation. In a global capacity, you manage all trademark, copyright and domain name matters for LSI in a business appropriate manner. You address the complexity of the relevant laws in multiple jurisdictions and engage with outside counsel and relevant authorities. You negotiate contracts relating to trademarks, domain names and copyrights, and collaborate with the legal team for other  agreements and transactions. You also have the global responsibility for all trademark, copyright and domain name legal proceedings including trademark oppositions, non-use or cancellation proceedings, copyright infringement actions and Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy (UDRP) proceedings.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide legal counseling to senior leadership on a broad range of trademark, domain name and copyright matters across all of LSI’s businesses.

  • Negotiate contracts relating to trademarks (in particular trademark licenses), domain names and copyrights, including transactional matters (M&A).

  • Handle disputes relating to trademarks, domain names and copyrights and directs outside counsel in litigations.

  • Establish relevant policies and procedures for LSI's stand-alone trademark, domain name and copyrights function.

  • Collaborate closely with the global sales and marketing functions, including the individual marketing heads across all of LSI’s businesses and with the global communications team regarding brand architecture, brand strategy and brand creation.

  • Prepare and coordinate, with the assistance of outside counsel, all global trademark filings and copyright filings. Manage the trademark portfolio and the maintenance and renewal of all trademarks. Supervise outside counsel and related budgets, as needed.

  • Define and implement appropriate trademark strategies for all of LSI's businesses, including trademark licensing, co-branding and use.

  • Provide relevant training relating to brand, trademark, domain name and copyright matters across all of LSI's businesses.

  • Support business partners and manage assessment of trademark portfolios and competitive IP-intelligence projects for area(s) of responsibility.

  • May occasionally deputize for other Legal/IP related roles in the team (including paralegal roles).

Key requirements:

  • Master of Law (MLaw/Lic. iur.), postgraduate qualification (e.g. LL. M.) preferred.

  • Preferably qualified as Trademark Counsel or In-house Counsel (CAS).

  • Professional experience in a law firm or in a corporate legal department.

  • Basic business knowledge, such as finance or marketing, or other business-relevant experience would be an upside. Proactive, problem-solving, independent and autonomous, self-motivating personality.

  • Good team player and willing to expand interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to prioritizing work, coordinating diverse and complex daily activities.

  • Capable of functioning well under pressure.

  • Proficient in written and oral communication in English, German is very nice to have.
