Lonza Personalized Medicine is actively seeking a Research Associate who will work in a cross-disciplinary team with the goal of translating clinically relevant processes related to the manufacture and use of therapeutic cells into the Cocoon® Platform. In this role, he/she will have the opportunity to utilize automated cell culture systems and cutting edge technologies to support in vitro expansion of novel cell types.

The hands-on team member will be responsible for executing experiments, performing growth analytics, and problem solving to assist in the tech transfer of new processes. They will be responsible for acquiring, analyzing, and communicating experimental data in a cross-functional and timely fashion.

Key responsibilities:

  • Executes experiments to evaluate, develop and optimize upstream and downstream cell therapy manufacturing processes
  • Conducts trouble shooting related to automated cell culture system, e.g., technical, equipment, software, and process performance issues, including planning of small-scale testing
  • Analyzes processes for improvement and scalability, and utilizes background and expertise to establish and optimize new processes for eventual incorporation into clinical cell production. 
  • Obtains and analyzes experimental data
  • Maintains accurate and up to date records, including appropriate lab notebook recordings.  Capable of achieving deliverables in a timely fashion.
  • Writing and revising technical documents including lab SOPs, test protocols and reports.
  • Works within a self-directed team environment
  • Presents results to direct supervisor and members of the team 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Key requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering or related discipline in biological sciences. Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Preferred commercial cell therapy work experience
  • Cell/tissue culture experience with good aseptic technique required. Experience with T cells or other immune cells preferred.
  • Preference for experience with bioreactor systems.
  • Computer software skills including Microsoft Office, accurate record keeping, ability to manage multiple projects, time management skills
  • Experiences performing various biological analysis assays (Flow Cytometry, ELISA, etc.).
  • Maintains accurate and up to date records, including appropriate lab notebook recordings.  Capable of achieving deliverables in a timely fashion. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Independent work skills, strong work ethic; demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Writing and revising technical documents including lab SOPs, test protocols and reports.
