We are looking for a number of entry level Biotechnologists and Scientists, to join our Pilot Operations Team based at our development and manufacturing site in Slough, UK. The successful candidates will be given the opportunity to develop hands on skills operating pilot scale equipment in the execution of process development and technical transfer of new or optimised processes (either USP or DSP) from both external and internal customers using a defined structured approach according to Lonza’s standard methodology.

Key responsibilities:

  • The role is responsible for hands-on execution of pilot scale batches and equipment / facility set up either in an USP or DSP environment. On occasion, working outside normal core hours based on process and business needs.
  • The role involves working closely with internal peers in the pilot operations team, Process Development/R&D scientists prior to and throughout the batch execution to ensure successful planning and process definition.
  • Proficient in preparing written process documentation in collaboration with internal team members as well as other cross functional project team members to deadlines provide assurance of process suitability to scale to cGMP manufacturing across Lonza’s global manufacturing network.
  • The role will develop a broad knowledge base of both company commercial business activities and personal knowledge and experience to resolve complex technical issues and working as part of a team.

Key requirements:

  • Desirable to have a BSc/BEng (or equivalent) in biological science or biochemical engineering disciplines or equivalent laboratory based experience 
  • Desirable to have previous experience in field of relevance e.g. USP or DSP hands on pilot operations from working in a relevant industrial or academic environment
  • Has developed proficiency in structured data analysis, applies standard management techniques to complete multiple routine tasks, challenging and contributing to department improvement projects
  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills working in teams with an ability to multi task, prioritize and be an effective decision maker.
  • Proven problem solver with a continuous improvement focus. Posseses excellent technical attention to detail with high level communication skills in both written / verbal and interpersonal qualities
