LSI is looking for a Senior Manager of Toxicology in our Morristown, NJ location to provide strategic and tactical leadership of the global toxicology team. In this role you will exercise independent judgment to adapt and apply resources to support Lonza Business groups and assist in the registration of products on a global basis. Develop the toxicology staff professionally and technically. Design, oversee, and manage appropriate data acquisition and/or toxicity testing (as needed) to support the global classification, registration and safe handling and use of Lonza products. Evaluate relevant data and provide sound scientific rationale for ensuring the integrity and safe use of Lonza products. Ensure that Lonza is recognized as the industry leader for toxicological expertise.
Provide strategic and tactical direction for global toxicology team within the Product Safety & Toxicology department.
Participates on interdisciplinary business teams in the development of new products by reviewing components and evaluating for potential health and/or environmental concerns.
Develops toxicology testing strategies to fulfill all the requirements of Product Stewardship and global regulatory compliance.
Interprets toxicity data and provides robust, scientific assessments for use by business managers, regulatory, industrial hygiene, and medical personnel.
Interacts with federal and global regulatory agencies on toxicology matters relative to product registration and new regulations that can have an impact on the Corporation; including negotiation of testing requirements with global regulatory authorities.
Provides support to Product Safety and Regulatory Assurance by assisting in toxicological evaluations, risk assessments, and GHS classifications. Provide information to assist with product registration and the production of MSDSs and labels.
Supports Lonza’s Product Stewardship efforts to ensure the health, safety and environmental performance of our products throughout the products’ life cycles.
Manage toxicology data within Lonza systems; including data input.
Provides support in responding to Lonza Emergency Action Network (LEAN) calls by providing a perspective on the health risks to humans and domestic animals from use and exposure to Lonza products.
Negotiates toxicology and testing requirements and positions within trade associations, governmental authorities, and external subject matter experts.
Travel <25% or as required.
Ph.D. in Toxicology or closely related field required
7 - 10 years experience in managing a Product Safety or Toxicology staff ideally in a chemical/consumer products industry
Solid understanding of conducting GLP toxicity tests
Working knowledge of the Global Harmonized System for the classification and labeling of chemicals
Strong oral and written communication skills
Effective project management skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task
Strong computer skills including MS Office Suite, SAP preferred
