For Drug Product Services (DPS), our successful Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) branch, located in Basel, Switzerland and Stein, Switzerland, we have exciting opportunities. Be part of the group that offer drug delivery combination products to our customers by applying for the position of Associate Principal Scientist / Medical Devices and Combination Products.

Key responsibilities:

  • Plan, schedule and lead design development activities for syringe or cartridge based combination product projects (e.g. safety syringe, auto inject or, patch pumps)

  • Take responsibility for meeting customers’ expectation within agreed timeline and allocated resources

  • Define characterization testing and complementary mechanical or physical modelling to enable selection of components and quantification of design related risks

  • Work with third parties and internal stakeholder teams to demonstrate usability, robustness and manufacturability of the design

  • Enable production of clinical and later commercial batches by supporting necessary technical transfer activities, including support of engineering teams across Lonza network and implementation of best-in-class control strategy

  • Lead or contribute to investigation of unexpected events

  • Act as expert on combination product and primary packaging topics

  • Support review of customers’ specific documentation including relevant regulatory modules.

  • Acquire and maintain expertise on drug-device combination product and primary packaging regulations

Key requirements:

  • MSc or PhD in mechanical engineering, pharmaceutical sciences or related fields

  • Substantial experience in medical device or combination product development, preferably providing overview of several development stages from early characterization to lifecycle management activities

  • Ease to operate and influence in a matrix environment. Working knowledge of project management techniques desirable

  • Ability to contribute independently and to leverage a team environment

  • Fluency in written and spoken English. German, French or Italian is an asset
