Associate Director - Quality Systems

We are looking for an Associate Director – Quality Systems for Lonza Specialty Ingredients (LSI), preferably in Visp or Basel, Switzerland. In this position, you lead strategic execution of Global quality strategies across the respective region in direct alignment with the business.  You will have the accountability and opportunity to transform Quality into a   growth and revenue driver through continued application of quality principles across the enterprise.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage Global ISO 9001 Certifications and related / similar programs (e.g. FAMI-QS, FSSC 22000, ISO 13485, EFfCI.
  • Establish a rolling 3 year Certification Audits Program, and accordingly, the Corporate Internal ISO Compliance Audits Program.
  • Act as  the primary point of contact with the external certification bodies that performe global ISO 9001 certification (and other norms), and coordinate the program with the concerned sites, including corporate entities.
  • Ensure that the Lonza global policies and procedures are compliant with any and all relevant standards / norms  .
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of Quality policies, procedures, and where applicable, work instructions (i.e. SOPs) , quality standards,best practices and provide interpretation for the Lonza LSI segment as necessary.
  • Support as responsible QA/QSM the implementation and maintenance of a medical devices quality management system according to ISO 13485 for LSI business units that market respective products (e.g. microbial control).
  • Act as a consultant to the organization in quality and compliance related issues.
  • Lead teams focused on establishing companywide quality policies and procedures as necessary and participate on teams focused on establishing companywide quality policies and procedures as assigned.
  • Participate in internal and external quality audits as necessary and support  management and maintenance of the quality management systems (QMS) within sites as required by the line or top management, to ensure compliance with, and effectiveness of,  the LSI Quality Policy.
  • Participate in selected regulatory, customer and internal audits and meetings ensuring that any observations and concerns raised are addressed and resolved in a timely manner.

Key requirements:

  • Master degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry / Biotechnology, Pharmacy, or appropriate scientific discipline required, PhD preferred
  • Significant knowledge of the chemical (or similar) industries and substantial experience in production, Quality Assurance, Quality Control required .
  • Prior direct supervisory/manager experience, leading large organization structures.
  • Deep knowledge of global management system approaches and structures, with the ability to incorporate quality requirements and strategies into tactical plans for execution while maintaining direct alignment with the business.
  • Ability to clearly define, structure and analyze quality assurance and business processes and the ability to multi-task projects and assess priorities in a complex environment.
  • Passion for the continuous improvement process and high customer focus.
  • Demonstrated ability in cross-cultural as well as cross-functional leadership specific to the region of accountability. 
  • Excellent organizational skills, prioritization in a fast-moving environment and in­dependent working style.
  • Very good communication skills in English and German.
