The Manager, Formulation Science will be responsible for the Research and Development of Innovative Dosage Form Solutions and systems in collaboration with multi-disciplinary project teams. Design and conduct experiments, analyze data, and clearly present results. Use knowledge of scientific fundamentals and the ability to apply these in an experimental setting to design, develop, scale-up, and transfer product formulations for manufacture of finished products. Key responsibilities:

  • Understand the company’s technology portfolio and identify innovative solutions that meet consumers needs
  • Survey scientific activities in academia and competitor research activities to stay on the forefront of innovation within the industry
  • Collaborate with both internal and external resources to drive new projects to commercialization
  • Work with business development and sales team to create meaningful customer-centric offerings, and support with on-site visits and presentations
  • Develop robust business cases for projects based on research, financials, consumer insights, sales, and other cross-functional partners to maximize opportunities and meet key financial objectives
  • Create exploratory projects leveraging world class innovation and design capabilities that uncover unmet consumer needs
  • Manage multiple projects and meet critical timelines to support the needs of the business
  • Identify new industry technology in delivery formats and identify opportunities to expand the company’s technology portfolio
  • Coordinate communications and status updates on new projects, test analyses, studies, etc. with leadership
  • Plan and prepare formulation trials for pharmaceutical and dietary supplement customers in a fast-paced environment
  • Be the face of Lonza in taking the customer’s “dreams” and providing the technical prowess, the input, the coaching, and the recommendations to develop those into realities
  • Follow through with customer communications and ongoing status updates regarding test analyses, studies, etc
  • Design new equipment or techniques or invent new experimental procedures/protocols
  • Exhibit strong leadership in scientific thought, operational excellence and execution, mentor-ship, and supporting client interactions
  • Create exploratory projects leveraging world class innovation and design capabilities that uncover unmet consumer needs
  • Recognized and utilized as an expert in at least one fundamental discipline (1) with advanced understanding of disciplines outside immediate technological focus

Key requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in formulation in the dietary supplement industry.
  • Significant experience working in a Manufacturing role with strong attention to detail and excellent time management skills
  • Significant experience in Microsoft Office skills (including Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Experience with various dosage formats typically utilized in the food and supplement industry (tablets, capsules, liquid filled capsules, soft gels, RTDs, powders, functional foods, etc.)
  • Must have a good working knowledge of GMPs, FDA, and other regulations pertaining to the dietary supplement industries
