Manufacturing, Science & Technology (MSAT) plays a critical role in the successful transition of innovative technology and biologics process technical transfer oversight from laboratory to Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) manufacturing scales providing our customers with range of services in the realization of the next generation of therapeutic molecules with one mission “making tomorrows medicines today”!

As a Senior Principal Scientist your primary purpose as a recognized Subject Matter Expert (SME) is to lead the project management of complex manufacturing processes (either USP or DSP) tech transfer to implement a robust and technically capable cGMP manufacturing process suitable for commercial registration. You will have responsibility for technical management/co-ordination of MSAT complex process technical transfers from the Slough site center of Excellence to the Lonza’s Global MMDM large scale manufacturing GMP operations. This role will technically lead, advice and direct project outcomes with a strong ability to anticipate and resolve technical challenges through leading internal cross functional teams. This role will have an established internal and external network and have influence and credibility across site/operations and within MSAT/manufacturing management.

Key responsibilities:

  • Responsible to provide detailed technical support via multiple project teams also to identify and implement novel technology advancement, write comprehensive technical documentation in collaboration and discussions with internal and external customers.
  • Responsibility to coach and mentor team members and also cross functionally as a SME in all aspects of process operations/knowledge transfer. Act as a site technical resource as required
  • Influences cross functionally with Operations, QA, Process development and external customer technical contacts to ensure process execution and project timeline adherence are successfully delivered to business and customer expectations.
  • Technical leader on customer relations to resolve and influence technical challenges and outcomes maintaining Lonza’s technical integrity and reputation.
  • Responsible for identifying and implementing required improvements in  Tech Transfer or commercial programs working with Global MSAT to reduce cost and drive innovation to support Lonza MMDM objectives.

Key requirements:

  • PhD/MSc or equivalent in Biological sciences or Biochemical Engineering or equivalent tech transfer experience
  • Extensive proven experience in biologics manufacturing and development.  
  • Extensive knowledge and learning from previous experience in commercial cGMP manufacturing
  • Process knowledge of Biologics manufacturing process and associated requirements for upstream and downstream operations
  • Ability to work in a fast paced (high change) role required by external customers to meet their requirements often to challenging time lines working cross functionally to achieve outcomes
  • Excellent attention to detail and prioritization capabilities – demonstrated previous project management/people leadership skills
  • Acts as a technical leader works across functions with excellent communication skills both oral and written – approachable and respected
