Cord blood (commonly abbreviated HUCB) CD34+ cells are known to contain hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells, and are ideal for studies relating to transplantation and stem cells as cord blood derived cells tend to be more naïve than similar cells derived from other tissue sources.
High Purity and Viability
Lonza cord blood CD34+ cells are isolated from cord blood mononuclear cells (MNCs) via positive immunomagnetic separation and are guaranteed to have a purity of ≥90% as indicated by CD34+ expressing cells. They are guaranteed to contain either ≥100,000, ≥500,000, or ≥1 million viable cells per ampoule depending on the product ordered. HIV-1 and hepatitis B are not detected for all donors and/or cell lots. A Certificate of Analysis is provided for each cell lot purchased.
Budget cells guaranteed to have a purity of 80-89% as indicated by CD34+ expressing cells are also available at a discounted rate in ≥500,000 (2C-101AS) or ≥1 million (2C-101S) viable cells sizes. Contact Customer Service for ordering information.
Choices in Tissue Source
Cord blood CD34+ cells tend to be more naive than hematopoietic stem cells from other tissue sources. Thus, they can be a great tool when trying to bypass HLA mismatch issues. However, the number of cells available per donor is limited and can pose a challenge in your research. If you are looking for large numbers of hematopoietic stem cells from the same donor, CD34+ cells derived from bone marrow might be a good option.
Supported by an Optimized Media System
HPGM™ Hematopoietic Growth Medium is recommended for optimal performance in serum-free culturing (additional cytokines may be necessary depending on application). Alternative media containing serum may also be acceptable. Please contact Scientific Support for serum containing media recommendations.
Lonza guarantees the performance of Clonetics™/Poietics™ cells only if appropriate Clonetics™/Poietics™ media and reagents are used exclusively and the recommended storage and use protocols are followed. Any modifications made to the recommended cell systems including the use of alternative media, reagents or protocols, will void cell and media performance guarantees. If you need assistance in selecting the appropriate media, reagents, or protocol, please contact Lonza Scientific Support.
