| Lonza Introduces Clonetics® Rat Cardiac Myocytes. |
Basel, 09.10.2007 – Lonza announces the availability of Clonetics® Neonatal Rat Cardiac Myocytes for use in cardiovascular and toxicological research. These cryopreserved cells offer you functional, beating cardiac myocytes upon thaw, at your convenience. Cardiac myocytes provide research laboratories with ready to use primary cells for studies in areas such as cell contraction and physiology, ion channel flux, cardiac lipid metabolism and lipotoxicity, cardiac injury and apoptosis, inflammation, hypertension, and cytotoxicity.
The Clonetics® Neonatal Rat Cardiac Myocytes are cryopreserved primary ventricular myocytes isolated from Sprague-Dawley rats at P1-3. These cells are ≥ 85% pure after thaw with ≥ 80% viability. Cells stain positive for actinin, and are electrophysiologically active as demonstrated by in vitro beating after 24 hours in culture. Cells are tested and guaranteed to be mycoplasma and bacteria free.
Using a Multi Electrode Array device, these cryopreserved cells have recorded comparable electrical activity to fresh cells, and demonstrated appropriate responses to cardioactive substances.
“Avoid the hassle of obtaining rats and performing your own dissections and isolations. Cryopreserved cells offer the convenience and flexibility of using the cells when your experiments are ready for them. Cardiovascular research funding has been rapidly increasing over the past decade, and these new rat cardiac myocytes provide the in vitro tools needed to help expedite these research projects and make them more cost effective,” states Shawn Cavanagh, Head of Lonza Bioscience.
