Lonza sells majority of its shares in Polynt S.p.A.

Basel, 27.12.2007 – Lonza announces the signing of an agreement to sell approximately 90% (~28,49 million shares) of its holding in Polynt S.p.A. for Euro 3.67 per share to Polimeri Speciali S.r.l., an Italian company indirectly controlled by Investindustrial. Lonza remains shareholder of Polynt with a stake of total 3,39%. After the successful listing of Polynt on the Milan bourse in October 2006 Lonza had kept a minority stake of 31% in Polynt.

“With Investindustrial we have found the right investor for a continued development of Polynt”, comments Lonza CEO Stefan Borgas. “We believe that Polynt will pursue its successful way that it had adopted since the IPO one year ago.”

This transaction represents the final milestone in Lonza’s strategy to focus on its life science operations, following the transformational changes to its portfolio implemented over the last year. Over 90% of Lonza’s sales now relate directly to the life sciences.

This transaction is expected to close after regulatory reviews in the second quarter of 2008.
