| Lonza closes the acquisition of the mid-scale biomanufacturing facility in Porriño, Spain |
Basel, 11.12.2006 - Lonza Group, the global life sciences company, today announces the closing of the acquisition of Genentech’s mid-scale mammalian biopharmaceutical production plant based in Porriño, Spain, as of December 8, 2006. The name of this new facility in Lonza’s portfolio will be “Lonza Biologics Porriño, S.L.”. The transaction, with a value of USD 150 million, was announced one month ago. Lonza will retain the facility’s approximately 310 highly skilled employees. Closing of the deal in this timely manner ensures availability of the Porriño site for Lonza for the entire year of 2007 and ensures best flexibility for Lonza's customers.
The successful acquisition is an important step in the execution of Lonza’s strategy and underlines Lonza’s world leading market position in the field of biopharmaceutical production.
