| Lonza announces capacity expansion at the Lonza Biologics large scale plant in Portsmouth, NH (USA) |
| Lonza Group today announces a Board of Director approval for plans to begin the installation of an additional 20'000 L mammalian cell culture bioreactor train within its existing large scale manufacturing facility in Portsmouth, NH (USA). |
The existing facility, known as Large-Scale Build-Out (LSBO) currently has three 20'000 L bioreactor trains, which were commissioned this summer. As anticipated, customer demand for capacity within LSBO remains strong. The additional fourth reactor train is in direct response to additional customer demand. The new capacity is expected to be on line in mid 2006. Lonza's depth of experience in designing, building and start-up of large-scale manufacturing plants will serve to expedite the commissioning of this new reactor train. We view this as a continuing positive sign of the industry's commitment to make use of contract manufacturers as a strategic tool to help manage manufacturing requirements. The capacity expansion will further strengthen Lonza's position as the leading contract manufacturer for the pharmaceutical industry.
