| Lonza Group will propose Peter Wilden as a member of its Board of Directors |
| The Board of Directors of Lonza Group is pleased to announce that it will propose the addition of Mr Peter Wilden as a Director of the company at its next Annual Shareholders' meeting on 31 March 2004. |
Peter Wilden (46) is currently Executive Vice-President Finance and Chief Financial Officer of Ferring Pharmaceuticals (CH). Ferring Pharmaceuticals is a privately held pharmaceutical company employing 2000 people in over 40 countries. He holds a degree in business administration and information technology, as well as a PhD in business administration.
"I am delighted that Mr Wilden has agreed to join us on the Board of Lonza", stated Sergio Marchionne, Chairman of the Board. "With his addition, the Board will now be able to address all facets of the life sciences industry. This team is ideally suited to guide Lonza in its recovery from the disappointing 2003 performance", he added.
Mr. Rupert Gasser and Mr. Peter Matter informed the Board of Directors that they will not stand for re-election at the next Lonza Shareholders' Meeting in March. "On behalf of all the members of the Board, I would like to thank Peter Matter and Rupert Gasser for their valuable contributions during their tenure as directors", Sergio Marchionne added. The composition of the Board to be elected by the shareholders will be as follows: Sir Richard Sykes, Dr. Bernard Mach, Dr. Peter Kalantzis, Dr. Peter Wilden and Mr. Sergio Marchionne.
