Glen

Senior Section Manager, Cell Therapy Manufacturing, Singapore

Glen joined Lonza as an enthusiastic 21-year-old, 13 years ago. Now a Senior Section Manager in our Cell Therapy Manufacturing business, he’s based in Singapore. While his role is primarily about leadership, he also oversees manufacturing operations, which means he deals with customers too.

I chose Lonza because…
It offers tremendous variety – there are multiple customers and processes, plus you can acquire diverse skills that help you learn and grow.

Since I started at Lonza, my career has progressed…
…steadily. I joined Lonza in September 2007 as a Technologist in Cell Banking, based in Slough. I progressed to Lead Technologist and then moved into management as a Senior Group Leader. In 2015 I saw an opportunity to move into Cell Therapy. This appealed to me because I could use my existing skills, get exposure to classified Clean Rooms and get the chance to make the final injectable drug product. In 2016 I joined Singapore Cell Therapy Manufacturing operations as a Senior Section Manager.

It’s special to work at Lonza because…
The opportunities are truly there if you want them. From exposure to the big Pharmaceutical players, to the next potential big blockbuster product of tomorrow, there’s endless diversity and challenges.

My work is meaningful because…
Cell and Gene Therapy (CGT) is very dynamic as it’s a rapidly growing area. The indications and potential of the products produced from stem cells are very promising, and CGT is seen as the future of medicine.

What makes me feel good at the end of the working day is…
The fact that Lonza has given me the opportunity to grow in my personal development, and to work for two different businesses in two countries. It has taken me from a young Technologist to a Manager responsible for multiple teams of people.

The most exciting thing about working at Lonza is…
Having the opportunity to work in Singapore. Working in the large-scale manufacturing facility is an amazing experience and I’ve been able to see a lot of Asia too. Singapore is such an incredibly diverse country and the scale of the manufacturing facility is awe-inspiring. It has four 20,000L bioreactors and associated seed trains, and purification capabilities.

What I most appreciate about my team is...
They’re amazingly talented people! With the potential to move between functions and sites, I have had the opportunity to work with many different colleagues.
