Allendale, New Jersey, January 17, 2013 - Lonza Microbial Control today released a reminder about the use of the Lonzagard® family of disinfectant formulations to combat the recent outbreak of H3N2 Influenza A virus. Lonzagard® products are designed to effectively control avian influenza A (H3N2) as well as other label-specified flu strains through regular use of disinfecting wipes, sprays, and liquid solutions on high-contact surfaces.
Recently, public health officials have reported that the flu outbreak has reached epidemic levels in some geographic areas, is affecting more people than usual, and is impacting a broader geographical area than in past years.
“Recent reports from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, along with other health officials indicate the flu has reached epidemic levels in the United States,” said Craig Carter, Manageer for Lonza’s Hygiene & Preservation business. “Using Lonzagard® products helps prevent the spread of flu virusees through surface contact contamination, especially in places where there is a high potential of virus transmission, such as healthcare facilities, educational, recreational and off ice buildings.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the predominant type of flu that is currently circulating is H3N2 Influenza A virus, making up 76% of viruses reported.
