Did you know? An estimated 2.3 billion people lack access to improved sanitation – defined as facilities that hygienically separate human excreta from human contact. In the African nation of Uganda, many people in rural areas and even the outskirts of major cities rely on pit latrines or outhouses as their bathrooms.

If untreated, pit latrines can become a breeding ground for mosquitoes, germs and viruses, which contaminate your environment and spread diseases, such as malaria and diarrhea.

To address this vital issue, Lonza Water Treatment is teaming up with the non-governmental organization Clean Habitat Uganda to provide our HTH Scientific® sanitizer tablets for use in treating pit latrines.

Through Lonza’s social media campaign #SanitationforAfrica, we aim to raise public awareness about global sanitation issues and the problems associated with the usage of pit latrines. In addition we share with you how Lonza is applying its water treatment technologies to enhance sanitation levels for communities in Uganda.
